The City of Chicago's Emergency Housing Assistance program is now available for individuals and families facing economic hardship due to COVID-19. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 1st at 11:59 pm. Please note that assistance is not promised to all that apply. Selected applicants will be entered into a lottery. Applicants can expect to hear back from the Department of Housing regarding their application in the days following the application deadline.

The Department of Family Support Services' Rental Assistance Program is available for individuals and families that are in immediate risk of eviction.Property owners must agree to participate in the program and cannot be a relative of the applicant or live in the household of the applicant. In addition, eligible applicants must demonstrate an ability to meet rent payments after assistance has been granted – based on the applicant’s current or anticipated income.

The Shelter List provides a directory of shelters that offers assistance to the homeless. We do not directly provide aid ourselves, but provide local resources for you to find. Most major U.S. cities including Chicago, Illinois, offer shelter for persons in need.

The Chicago Coalition for the Homeless Mutual Aid Fund will provide one-time emergency grants of up to $500 to individuals or families experiencing homelessness, including people who are unsheltered, staying at a shelter, or living doubled-up with family or friends. Those who were previously homeless and are now at risk of becoming homeless again are also welcome to apply.
